Podcasts To Get Yo Life: Laughs & Pop Culture

We are all aware that DJT is in the White House. Some days that can just be too much to take. Maybe we don’t want to escape cause we can’t really afford that totally, but we do need some comic relief. Check out the podcasts that will help you get yo’ life when life gets you down.

The Read

Soooo much shade and it’s sooo good. If you see me walking down the street head thrown back, cracking up chances are I am listening to The Read. Kid Fury is my FAV, but who doesn’t love Crissle too?! They are quite the duo. Their impressions of Blue Ivy are priceless, and Kid Fury be reading those Blue Apron commercials like he gives no f*&ks. My favorite part is the listener letters because the fact that people are writing in asking these two for life advice should be a sign that the hosts just need to tell them to “get yo’ life!”

Sooo Many White Guys

If you love 2 Dope Queens, you will LOVE Phoebe’s solo adventure. She is hilarious on her own, and although Ilana Glazer is the Executive Producer (and I honestly had no idea who that was before this podcast), my fav producer is Joanna Solotaroff who joins Phoebe at the beginning and end of each episode. Phoebe refers to Joanna as the white Robin Quivers. I find their interactions incredibly entertaining, particularly because Joanna is superrrr corny and sometimes innocent, in a good way. The nicknames that Phoebe gives the audience are EVERYTHING “hey boo boos!” I also find the theme song catchy so don’t be too surprised if you hear me singing, “So many white guys, so many…”

Friends Like Us

With Friends Like Us you get to meet comics that you might never have known of otherwise! If you listen to the show each of the hosts goes around to close out the show and fills in their own, “With friends like us you don’t….” You never know which host will be on the show, except for the “always host” Marina Franklin. Marina, after Kid Fury, does the best Blue Apron commercials. (Sidenote: Blue Apron sponsors most of these podcasts, but this blog post is not sponsored!) The Blue Apron commercials get SO old after awhile if you listen to lots of podcasts, so the fact that I look forward to hearing her read that commercial speaks volumes. I don’t know how to describe this podcast; it’s just solid. Great guests, humor, a variety of perspectives, talk about what is going on in the world, but not so much that you get depressed. Their candor and transparency are what keeps me returning each week.

Whiskey, Wine and Moonshine

  • These ladies have unfortunately stopped doing regular podcasts, and it is a shame because they are friends in my head and now we don’t talk like we used to. They occasionally drop an episode or two so be sure to subscribe OR just catch up on allllllll of their old episodes. You’ll be glad you did.
