Who has been your most influential mentor?

Experience, truly has been my greatest mentor/teacher. It has shaped, advised, and continues to guide me through this journey of life. I’ve been blessed, and have had some amazing individuals throughout different chapters of my life. During my adolescence, my youth pastor Theresa Thompson Goode played a major role in my life. She was really the first one to help activate the leader in me. As an adolescent my leadership skills typically translated as being a troubled, unmotivated, and lazy.I was none of those, I’ve just always been driven by things that truly interest me. She recognized this. She gave me shoes that were too big, and required me to fill them. She gave me more responsibility then I thought earned or deserved which boosted my self-confidence, which then allowed me to step into my God given power. She made me feel special like I was all of that so in turn I became ALL OF THAT!

As I’ve grown older I don’t have mentor per say, I do intentionally seek out powerhouse women that I look up to and aspire to be like in some shape or form however I haven’t felt drawn to anyone local so I’m currently striving to be that for the next generation. That I can serve as a powerhouse woman out of Boston doing the damn thing.

How did you get where you are today?

FAILURE! I live by the biblical scripture “A wise man will fall 7 times, but he will rise again.” I am not afraid to fail. I fail every damn day and I eat it! I eat the failure and I keep going. I have setbacks and there are constant emotional, mental, a physical barriers that I have to literally fight my way through on daily basis to remain afloat but man do I have a story to tell. Nobody cares about you until you’ve been some places, gone through some things, and been around the block a few times. So failure is what has brought me this far and will continue to bring me further in life and success. Like the MJ quote

“ I’ve failed over and over again and that is why I succeed” Im just chasing my next failure because I know my success story isn’t to far behind. Follow my journey.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Trailblazing this world, making my mark, being on purpose and chasing all the things that set my soul on fire. I’m not confined to specific expectations that societal norms tell me of I where I should be in 5 years. I’ll be on purpose and that’s all that matters. I’m at a point in my life where I trust in my ability and instinct to make good decisions so wherever those choices take me is right where I’m supposed to be.

I’m at a point in my life where I trust in my ability and instinct to make good decisions so wherever those choices take me is right where I’m supposed to be.

but I do Imagine my life, my daughters, and my family living happily. I have this one constant vivid vision of my girls and I eating breakfast in our breakfast nook with extremely large windows that overlooks the lake in our backyard. In 5 years that where I want to be, in the home of my dreams, eating good breakfast with my babies. It’s the simple things. I’ll take a feature on Forbes though too .

What about this city inspires you?

The potential of this city inspires me and what makes it even better is that it is my birth place. I almost feel as though that Boston is an untouched canvas and it’s my duty to paint this beautiful picture of what it has the potential to be. There is so much to be done here, so much to activate, so much create and so many experiences to be had. I’m inspired by all it has to offer. It’s untouched, and I’m ready to start making moves.

Boston should be… paying attention, should be more involved, should be more supportive, should be committed to the changes that are happening. There is a shift happening in this city. Don’t miss the wave.

Boston could be… the birthplace of a new urban renaissance.

Boston wants to be… respected. Boston is a prideful city but not necessarily for people of color. We are deeply in search of our connection to this city. It’s about that time that we pride ourselves on something more than sports. Lets develop true Boston Pride and create a Boston legacy to call our own.

Boston needs… to become more interdependent and less cliquey so we can start taking steps into the right direction. Let’s all take a seat at the table. There is enough for all of us to eat!
