Who has been your most influential mentor?
I’ve had so many who’ve been instrumental to me during different moments of my career. Right now, I’d say currently that would be Dasheeda Dawson. Not only is she my Soror, but she’s also been pretty instrumental in helping me shape One On One into a successful podcast series.
How did you get where you are today?
Well…I’ve worked in various roles from customer service to human resources and in my biggest role to date was when I had a baby!
Haha…I laugh now because if it weren’t for postpartum depression, I don’t think I would have ever owned a business.
After having the most beautiful pregnancy, I developed postpartum depression. Expressing to a friend that I really didn’t want to use antidepressants to manage, she suggested that I try medical marijuana.
I laughed her off, but asked myself, “what’s the worst that could happen?” I consumed it, and never looked back!
Immediately upon becoming a medical marijuana patient, I realized there was an “industry” brewing and jumped in head first. Attending local cannabis networking events to volunteering for the campaign to Regulate Marijuana like Alcohol in 2016.
I was hooked and began tinkering with ideas on how I could be part of the movement.
However, what was painfully obvious was that the industry lacked diversity — so I took action and founded One On One. We use the art of storytelling, to de-stigmatize cannabis consumption within multicultural communities. Guests disclose their first time consumption and how their usage today aids their current endeavors.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself taking One On One internationally and recording narratives from African and Caribbean diasporas. Continue the mission to destigmatize and re-educate our community that cannabis is a healthier alternative.
What about this city inspires you?
What inspires me most about Boston is our relentless pursuit for innovation.
Boston should be…open past 2 am LOL
Boston could be… the cannabis industry game changer :-)
Boston wants to be… the cannabis industry game changer :-)
Boston needs… to implement marijuana regulations, that give communities disportionately affected by the war on drugs, a fair chance to participate in the legal market. That’s how you become an industry game changer :-)
