Poet/ Author Series: James Baldwin

“ Join us Friday, April 6 from 7–10pm for an evening celebrating James Baldwin! We’ll celebrate his life and literary work by sharing excepts from her books. Frugal Bookstore Inc. will be selling some of Baldwin’s works for those who need physical copies. This event is presented by Meta Art.

Opening Poetry Exhibition:My body as hoME

“ Dzidzor invites you to share your experience in the opening poetry exhibition that explores the body as home. Inspired by a poetry workshop facilitated by BlackVenus Brianne and “Wildseed” by Octavia E. Butler. The exhibit is an interactive-poetic experience that challenges the audience to view the body as home.

Dzidzor is Ghanian poet/performing artist and educator based in Boston, MA. She is currently an active poetry facilitator at Grubstreet.

Charity Ice Cream Party for Domestic Survivors

“ Hey Everyone!

As you know I am running the 2018 Boston Marathon for Casa Myrna which is a non-profit organization that offers support services and shelter to Domestic Violence Survivors!

I have the honored of raising $10,000 for them! In my efforts, I am putting together an ice cream party fundraiser with Chill on Park! 10% of all sales will go directly to Casa Myrna to help survivors of Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse! Come and grab yourself a sundae! Perfect time of the season for desserts and smoothies!

Equitable Boston: Design, Development, and Access to Opportunity

“ Using Imagine Boston 2030 as a framework, panelists from the planning, design, and development community will address how parts of the city’s vision for the future can be achieved using more inclusive and equitable practices to shape the built environment. Designers and developers are playing a significant role in shaping the future of Boston, and who gets a seat at the table impacts more than just how our city looks. Designers have the chance to play a key role in improving the economic opportunity for all residents, attracting and retaining a more diverse workforce, and creating a stronger, more inclusive future for Boston. Presented by the Boston Society of Architects/AIA (BSA) and DREAM Collaborative.”

“ The Illustration Department presents a lunchtime talk with renowned artist Andrea Dezsö. The talk will be held on April 10, from 1:00–2:00 in the Tower Auditorium.

Andrea Dezsö is a visual artist/illustrator who works across a broad range of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, site-specific installation, artist’s books, cut paper, animation and large-scale public art.

Andrea’s work has been exhibited around the world and has been featured in publications such Art Forum, Art News, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR, and in numerous books.”

“ We’re hosting a millennial response to the Globe Spotlight Series on Race on April 12, 2018 FROM 6:30–8 at the Emerson Paramount Center with a small reception to follow.

The Boston Globe series highlighted the black brain drain happening in Boston and we will engage with the young people who have chosen to stay in Boston and build our local black creative economy. Join Boston’s next generation of black artists and entrepreneurs.”
