DEBUT: Artifact — Cry

We premier the new track from UK based producer Artifact as he returns with ‘Cry’ on Halocyan Records.

LA’s Halocyan Records kick off 2016 with their first release of the year from Bristol’s very own Artifact (a former contributor to our mixtape series). Cry EP is made up of four fierce dancefloor stompers and a remix from Gunnar Haslam.

The title track is a powerful example of how this producer approaches his music with a charging momentum and fetching, panned vocals. In the likely situation that this is dropped at the height of a set, ‘Cry’ is going to be the track that is remembered at the end of the night. ‘Ebbed’ is a percussively impressive track which edges towards the techno producer in Artifact, with churning kicks and endearing, sparse bass sounds. ‘Voice’ continues as a vigorous dance floor track with a dangerous synth riff to boot. The soulful vocal sample that frequents the track weaves in and out of the synth sound in a sporadically pleasing fashion. ‘Compulse’ is another example of the artist’s superb execution of sparse percussive technicality and with a pulsing bass riff, the track rounds off Artifact’s work on this EP, while Gunnar Haslam’s take on ‘Voice’ concludes the release and is a fitting contribution that aims for the dancefloor in a less urgent but similarly stormy flare that we have seen with the aforementioned tracks.
