Digital transformation has been a hot buzzword over the last few years, rewiring organizations with the goal of creating value by continuously deploying tech at scale. Hybrid clouds are seen as one of the best options for organizations to achieve the “rewiring” of their organizations, using this mixed computing, storage and services environment made up of on-premises infrastructure, private cloud services and a public cloud.

According to a recent study surveying over 2,500 IT decision makers globally, 82% of organizations have adopted hybrid cloud.

Along with the benefits that span the decision to adopt a cloud infrastructure, also come challenges. Security, operational complexity and skills shortage for managing the deployments are just a few.

Developing a clear cloud strategy is vital for organizations. We’ve identified four steps to consider:

1) Prioritize Agility and Value

It is important that the implementation of the cloud infrastructure helps, not hinders the value of the business including innovation, security and migration.

2) Choose a cloud provider

As noted as one of the challenges, managing multicloud cloud complexities is not easy. Organizations are encouraged to choose a preferred provider to assist in meeting business needs within the cloud framework. Using a Cloud Service Broker (CSB) would assist in creating and maintaining relationship with multiple cloud service providers as well, selecting best provider for each customer and monitoring the services.

3) Utilize distribute cloud services

Private cloud are often built to meet regulatory or infrastructure requirements, but are harder to manage than public cloud. Distributed cloud services can assist meeting private cloud needs while keeping the advantage of public cloud.

4) Secure your cloud

Choose the right cloud security service to ensure that the access to the data is managed, classified and encrypted. This security should also continuously check for misconfigurations and anomalies.
