Started in France, then in Italy, followed by Portugal, the program now continues in Romania. The first product is boxed fresh blueberries. According to the plans, more products and countries will follow soon.

The Filières responsables product line of Auchan contains several hundreds of products in each country. It provides good quality products for fast growing consumer segments, which are more and more keen to buy locally grown, organic, or responsibly produced food.

In several countries, Auchan plans to expand traceability to most responsible products during the next couple of years.

Implementing traceability might seem simple for those who are not experienced with supply chains, but in reality it requires to face a lot of challenges.

While the solution comprises of modern technologies like mobile and blockchain, many of the challenges are not technology related. Complete supply chains — sometimes hundreds of companies — need to agree and collaborate on common processes, identifications, data transfer protocols to collect information in each step from the farms to the supermarket shelves. And all these data sources with different levels of IT maturity need to be syncronized to a common data flow, from which each participant can utilize the data they need for a more efficient work.

Auchan‘s efforts take it amongst the retailers which will lead the world towards a more transparent and safer food industry.

TE-FOOD is the world’s largest publicly accessible, farm-to-table food traceability solution. Started in 2016, it serves 6000+ business customers, and handles 400,000 business transactions each day.
