My Dad was a lover of nature and he passed it to me. He spotted a raptor even while driving. We have a lot of buzzards, hawks, and others in my area.

We moved here from Germany when I was six. I have travelled the world since, and returned, after living in four countries.

This widened my view of wildlife. I have seen a rattlesnake, stroked a tarantula, and seen bobcats. My most prized spot was a Roadrunner near San Diego. We all celebrated that.

I can’t eat apples as we had an orchard. We ate apples all year round. I am appled out.

I recall so clearly seeing my first Robin close-up. I had taken my Dad a cup of tea and it perched on the handle of his spade. I was stunned. I was seven.

Dad would take us to the beach late in the afternoon when the water is warmest and tourists have gone. This is when he would spot birds of prey.

We hiked the hills and forest and saw rabbits, hares, foxes, deer, and many birds.
