Colorful Paper Chains Make Sustainable Holiday Decorations
They are also a fun craft project for children
Christmas always brings back childhood memories for me. One memory that I love goes back to grade school. We learned to make paper chains using colored construction paper. We used those chains to decorate walls, Christmas trees, and anything else we could think of.
My husband and I gave up on Christmas trees when we got dogs, but I still wanted to use the one I made for this article so I hung it in the window.
Red and green are traditional Christmas colors, but if I remember correctly, I used to add yellow to represent the star on top of the tree. It made sense in my six-year-old mind.
Traditional Christmas decorations aren’t environmentally friendly
According to Country Living,
Despite being a traditional Christmas decoration, tinsel is not very eco-friendly. Lots of tinsel, whether it’s tucked within the branches of the tree or wound around the banister, is made using non recyclable plastic or filmed paper. John Lewis & Partners said tinsel sales were up 11% in 2020, when the traditional Christmas decoration enjoyed a major revival.
