According to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the state of Nevada has 48,000,000 acres of public land, making up about 63% of the state. That’s land managed by the BLM. It doesn’t include National Forests, Nevada State Parks, or National Parks.

Four-wheel-drive dirt roads take adventurous travelers to various ghost towns and abandoned gold and silver mines. The basin and range topography makes it possible to see for many miles in any direction.

My husband and I love exploring remote dirt roads, seeing what we can discover next. Once in a while, though, we find ourselves driving past sites where people have dumped couches, mattresses, broken TVs, file cabinets, and other unwanted furniture or appliances.

These aren’t always easy places to get to. People will drive several miles down rough dirt…
