Here’s What You do to Give Them the Best Forever Home.
Every plant hoarder runs into a time of buying a plant, bringing it home, then it becomes sick, and you have to deal with the poor thing. But what if I told you that your ill plant could have been avoided if you just followed a few precautions. We love our plants with all of our hearts and soul. Why not give them the best care and concern for their well-being? Here are my favorite tips for bringing a new plant into my collection that has saved my collection once or twice.
Check the roots
Picture this; you walk around the plant store and find the perfect one. Beautiful and healthy leaves and promising buds are on the way. This all could be a mask, hiding the true problems deep into the dirt. Every time I pick up a potential plant, I will carefully lift the plant out of its pot to inspect the roots if the soil is dry enough. I do this in case the roots have root rot (Rooting of the roots due to overwatering.) If a plant has root rot, it’s only a short time before that plant will lose those beautiful leaves because the foundation of the plant won’t be able to support the foliage.
