Roses bloom in the fall

Trees turn into a kaleidoscope of red, yellow, and orange, and roses persist into the fall.

It’s that time of year when chaos rules among the flora in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Trees want to transition toward winter. Roses want to hang on to summer.

It’s an odd blend of a cornucopia. Grapevines harvested. Decorative pumpkins and gords grace entrance ways. Thanksgiving inches closer, and lipstick pink, crimson red, and snowy white roses still pop with color.

Fall is forever caught between summer and winter— except summer doesn’t let go until December sometimes. Evidenced by those roses making one last push before dormancy.

Our seasons are not well defined like in other parts of the country. Climate change has screwed it up even more.

Nevertheless, cooler days and chilly nights have started to creep in.

If it’s all a bit confusing, no worries.

For now, the conundrum is not complicated.

Just take a walk and stop to smell the roses, in November.
