And so it begins

On April 20, 2013, I formally accepted Teach for America’s invitation to join the 2013 Mississippi Delta Corps. On June 4 I will arrive at Delta State University for training and by August I will be a secondary science teacher in a low-income community. Joining Teach For America is a dream that I have been working to realize since I began getting involved as a student leader on my campus three years ago. I never expected to see this dream realized but I am humbled, ecstatic, and ready to get to work.

The past two weeks have been surreal as I come to terms with the news and inform family and friends. Frankly, I am terrified. The amount of work ahead of me is overwhelming. The fact that I am scared tells me that this is the right thing to do. Joining Teach For America in the Mississippi Delta is next journey I need to make in life. I invite you to join me in this adventure as I update this blog with thoughts and insights into the process.
