Customer Educator Team Lead

What would you have a teachable course on?

I have aspirations to create a woodworking course. In a past life, I used to be a furniture maker and I taught carpentry for awhile. I’d love to help others feel comfortable getting started in a woodshop safely.

What brought you to Teachable?

I’ve been an educator in a few different capacities, so the company’s mission immediately drew me in. I was looking for a place where people were innovating in education, and once I met the people here I knew I wanted to be a part of Teachable.

What’s one thing you’ve found on the team that you think is unique or interesting?

There’s true diversity in terms of the previous experiences people come from. There are people on our team from other parts of the country and the world, but we make up a cohesive family.

How has your job changed since joining Teachable?

I started at Teachable as a Customer Educator and I’m now a Team Lead — so I’ve gone from working directly with customers to supporting & coaching those who do. Because of that, I’ve had the opportunity to see the work our Customer Care team does through a few different lenses– from finding the best way to convey information to a School Owner to strategizing team-wide on how we can provide the best possible service.

How has your background informed your role?

Classroom teaching was definitely good preparation for responding to people’s questions about our platform. It showed me the importance of breaking things down into digestible chunks and giving people the same information in multiple modalities, since not everyone learns the same way. I also carry a curriculum development mindset into training new people and coaching our Customer Educators. I like to start from the end (what’s our goal?) and work backwards to figure out how to get there together.

What are your long-term goals for your team at Teachable?

We have so many talented, knowledgeable people on the Customer Care team — many of whom would make great leaders, Specialists, Project Managers, and so on. I hope to see them continue to take on challenging projects related to their interests and growing professionally here!

Are you in #goteamwoofgo or #clubmeow?
In real life, solidly both! I can’t choose between my dog Abby and my cat Alfie (or my turtle Shellbert for that matter). But to be honest I’m not in #clubmeow on Slack. Please don’t tell Alf.

ABBY
