In 2018, things that are cool go viral.

(Random summer thoughts. Day 1.)

Videos, posts, music, memes, etcetera.

I won’t lie and say that I don’t want to do something / be a part of something that goes viral. I do. But some things – especially things built to last or really meaningful things – take time.

Growing tomatoes isn’t going viral. Neither is writing a book. Or building a house. (You get the point.)

My friend Christine taught 300 minutes of math (per day) at Rise Academy this year. Plus, she ran a morning and afternoon advisory (50 minutes), a snack block (15 minutes), and the second half of lunch reflection (30 minutes) on a daily basis. And she never missed a day of school. (She also never missed a day of school last year.) And she was late maybe once. (Maybe.)

Those are LeBron-like numbers.

It’s the type of drive and commitment and sacrifice that should go viral.

And even though it won’t, that doesn’t mean it’s not special or worthy of celebration.

It just means that we need to look harder, narrate better, and sometimes think differently.

p.s. Today is the first day of summer vacation. I texted this out to all of the parents (and kids, if I have their numbers too) –

Replies like this make today easier –
