It’s been a fantastic few weeks for some of 1776’s great member companies!

CommonLit

CommonLit, a tech non-profit based in Washington, D.C., scored a $3.9 million grant from the Department of Education that will allow CommonLit to further develop and implement software that helps young students match the reading levels needed to graduate from high school and succeed in their future careers.

With this grant money, CommonLit will expand its online library of materials, develop year-long planning tools for teachers, and expand its mobile app for those classrooms that implement personal technology policy.

CleanCapital

CleanCapital is one of 16 finalists for 43North, a business idea competition that awards $5 million in prizes across 8 companies. CleanCapital will be competing in front of a panel of judges for $1 million in prize money as well as incubator space, mentorship and access to additional business incentive programs.

CleanCapital, a financial investment company that makes it easy to invest in clean energy programs, hopes to bridge together “cleantech” and fintech to introduce the future of clean energy. Prizes will be awarded October 27, 2016.

GoodWorld

GoodWorld has accepted a $485,000 investment from the District of Columbia Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking (DISB). GoodWorld uses social media to facilitate charitable donations by engaging the hashtag #donate.

Users may contribute to any of GoodWorld’s partner charities by commenting or tweeting a dollar amount alongside #donate.

Social Tables

Social Tables, a Washington, D.C.-based event software startup, secured $13 million in a series B funding round. This new funding will go toward expanding its roster of engineers and putting finishing touches on some of their major projects for 2017.

TheWealthFactory

TheWealthFactory is another one of the 16 finalists for 43North. Designing financial literacy education technology games, TheWealthFactory targets vulnerable populations in need of financial literacy.
