1.31 Factors Leading to Wastage

During today’s meeting, our group focused on different transactions that happen within the entire process from food production to food disposal. We tried to list out the main stakeholders in each stage and the factors at play that lead to wastage. They were then followed by why (what causes) those actions/forces.

We also made a distinction between personal home use and food services.

After the entire table was filled out, we then went on to coming up with questions that we could address for our project based on each stage within the food process:

  • How can we help farmers forecast?
  • Alternative methods of dealing with leftovers?
  • How can we change the mindset around overstocking?
  • How do we know food is good for consumption?
  • How can the individual better manage food at home?
  • How do we embrace food diversity?
