  • young married couple
  • middle class
  • both working professionals

Shopping habits:

  • Mostly visits Trader Joe’s & Giant Eagle
  • by in small portions due to family size
  • buying more ingredients is a motivation to cook
  • sometimes what is bought in the store is inspired by a particular dish
  • general grocery list stays the same: milk, eggs, juice
  • frustration with leftovers: need to go through extra process before thrown away (tied up in separate bag)
  • PHG recycling/trash system very unsophisticated
  • unclear about what could be done for recycling
  • always prefers to buy organic labeled things but do not actually trust them
  • feels comforted by the word “organic”
  • surprised that certain organic items (i.e. milk) have a really long expiration date (i.e. 2 months)
  • feels uncomfortable buying generic brands; only forced to buy them from the lack of available options

Special habits/association with food/cooking:

  • always cook as a couple
  • collaborative cooking: evolving recipes that best suit both party’s tastes
  • special memory food: croissant + smoked salmon + avocado + cream cheese
  • both don’t necessarily enjoy/love cooking; but love the act of spending time together
  • cooking for/with someone you love makes the difference
  • while dating, they became closer through cooking to together and then sometimes inviting their friends over to enjoy the meal.
