Team getting hyped up for the sketching sprint!

With our direction set, our team started sketching and exploring various ideas using current emerging technologies. After much discussion, we ended up on 3 possible solutions for the problem at hand.

  1. Using maker spaces to help the elderly learn and teach useful activities. The maker spaces would include emerging technologies.
  2. Using IoT to bridge the gap between the traditional and the tech savvy.
  3. Using emerging technology such as the Hololens to connect the elderly with people who are ready to teach certain activities.

Having explored various options through these three directions, we came to a conclusion that we wanted to create something impactful and we wanted it to be a tangible object rather than a mobile or a web based solution. The idea is that computer based solutions are not always the best realisations of an idea, especially when dealing with non-tech savvy people. Keeping this in mind, our team created a product Hobbyt that encouraged the elderly to learn new activities or impart knowledge to others on topics/activities that they are comfortable with.

Sketches from our low fidelity prototype

We tested out our sketches with 3 participants. After giving them a little background about the project, we gave them the paper prototype and asked them to navigate through the product. The feedback we got was extremely useful in helping us iterate on the final design.

With the final iterations in place, we started mapping out our video and the paper submission. Its the final stretch!!! We are almost there. More details and updates will be provided in the next blog post.
