At Everbridge, we promote from within first — before searching outside of the organization. Below, two Bridgers discuss the journey from an entry level Business Development Representative to the Account Management team.

Sam (left), and Dan (Right)

What was the role you were originally hired for at Everbridge?

Sam: Sr. Business Development Representative, where I supported Strategic Account Executives in Finserv, Life Science, Chemical, Manufacturing, Oil, Energy, and Chemical Industries.

Dan: Business Development Representative for Account Executives in the Higher Education field.

Can you provide a few examples of things you’ve accomplished during your time as a BDR?

Sam: As a BDR, I helped develop initial communications for some of Everbridge’s largest new and growth business. I was recognized as Top Performer in the company as well, and attended Presidents Club.

Dan: The first closed won deal that I was involved with at Everbridge was a University. The University was concerned about violence that occurred on their campus and they were making big changes to keep their students safe. I’m glad that Everbridge was able to be a part of those improvements and they remain happy Everbridge customers’ today.

What motivated you to pursue the Associate Account Manager Role?

Sam: As a BDR, there are many different career paths available to you including sales, marketing, account management, and implementations as well as many others. There truly are many options available to you and I did research by meeting with leaders from different departments to see which team appealed to me most. I tried to leave a positive and favorable impression with every person I spoke with about Everbridge. This approach became evermore important as I transitioned to working with strategic accounts and customers on a day to day basis. The account management team works hard to ensure the every client is successful with Everbridge. Moving from BDR to AM felt like a natural progression for me.

Dan: When I saw that the Associate AM role opened up I realized that it was a great opportunity to learn more about the platform and get a deeper understanding of our customer’s needs. I’m happy to support people in getting the most value from the Everbridge platform.

What advice would you give to a current BDR looking to grow, or even advice for someone applying for a role on the BDR team?

Sam: For current BDRs, try to jump on as many calls, demos, and account reviews as possible. The knowledge you’ll gain about Everbridge as well as the customer perspective is invaluable. The leadership team at Everbridge is absolutely phenomenal and is always willing to meet with you to discuss career opportunities so don’t hesitate to reach out for advice.

For someone applying as a BDR, this role is a great opportunity to get your foot in the door at an incredible organization. There are multiple career path options as a BDR. Everyone on the team looks out for one another and there is some great banter!

Dan: There is a lot of support for professional growth on the BDR team and at Everbridge. If you are interested in what another team is doing, go ask about it and keep asking questions.
