Facts:
- 5–15% of people in African communities in the US have chronic Hep B-greater risk for cirrhosis and liver cancer
- lack of awareness and screening
- 50 million chronic carriers of hepatitis B virus in Africa, with a 25% mortality risk
Goals of CHIPO (Coalition Against Hepatitis for People of African Origin):
- Discuss HepB among African immigrants
- Hep B education and awareness
- Increase African prevalence in Hep B discussions
How to get Involved:
- Present and share CHIPO presentations to educate others
- Conduct community events and find a local Hep B United coalition
- Have conversations with friends and family
- Raise awareness for increased Hep B screening in more communities
- Join Coalition Against Hepatitis for People of African Origin
