Facts:

  • 5–15% of people in African communities in the US have chronic Hep B-greater risk for cirrhosis and liver cancer
  • lack of awareness and screening
  • 50 million chronic carriers of hepatitis B virus in Africa, with a 25% mortality risk

Goals of CHIPO (Coalition Against Hepatitis for People of African Origin):

  • Discuss HepB among African immigrants
  • Hep B education and awareness
  • Increase African prevalence in Hep B discussions

How to get Involved:

  • Present and share CHIPO presentations to educate others
  • Conduct community events and find a local Hep B United coalition
  • Have conversations with friends and family
  • Raise awareness for increased Hep B screening in more communities
  • Join Coalition Against Hepatitis for People of African Origin
