Getting started

The brief has just been released and so we are getting started. Coffee in a nice location seemed like a good place to get inspiration.

The brief included quite an extensive reading list including some background to today’s libraries and the amazing things that they are doing, existing applications and a list of resources that are already available and being used by the State Library of Victoria.

So our starting point is to work our way through these lists to see what we can find. We’ve split everything up with each of us going through some of each of the resources. What we’re looking for is insights, things that give us an indication of what’s important to the different stakeholders and who these stakeholders might be. As we read we are looking for quotes that give us an idea of what people want, why existing applications might have been created, the needs that others have sought to address and opportunities for the future.

We’re recording everything in a shared document — cutting and pasting quotes as we don’t want to lose the detail that is embedded in what has already been written. We will use these in our next step.

Time to get reading.
