It’s a man’s world — no, really, for Megan Collins it is. The Wisconsin-born, Manhattan-based blogger is a rare XX in a sea of XYs looking for credible advice on what to wear. Her blog, Style Girlfriend, orients around stylish yet unfussy clothes that help men realize what’s true for any chromosome pairing: when you look good, you feel good. Collins drops her “lady intel” on Kit, too, in the form of collections like “Your Best Valentine’s Day Date Night Outfit,” “Stylish Valentine’s Day Gifts for Your Guy” and her own everyday carry items.

Follow her on Kit for sane style advice.

1) As we get deeper into 2016, what fashion trends do you want to go away, like, right now and which are you excited about?

I love that guys are getting more adventurous with their suiting, and I’m excited to see more of that in 2016. More than ever, the “average” man — one who doesn’t necessarily have a formal dress code to follow at work, but who’s interested in evolving his personal style and has fun with clothes — understands the importance of a good charcoal or navy suit hanging in his closet, and now he’s expanding his repertoire.

From a brighter blue to dashing patterns like Glen Plaid, windowpane and houndstooth, there’s so many ways to express individuality and personality in your dressed-up wardrobe. So long as the fit is on point (not too baggy, not too tight), I say, go wild with fabrics, patterns and colors.

As for trends I wish would go away, I’ve never loved the long tunic tops that some guys wear. I understand this “new silhouette” is very trendy, and Kanye and Bieber are all about the look, but it just doesn’t float my boat.

2) What do you carry with you at all times?

It’s all in my kit, of course:

3) If you could raid anyone’s closet, whose would it be and why?

For a boyfriend or brother, I would steal every suit out of Eddie Redmayne’s award season wardrobe; that guy knows how to dress up and looks like he has fun doing it. For more casual wear, I love everything Aziz Ansari wore on the first season of Master of None. If I had to describe it, I’d call it “refined Brooklyn hipster.”

4) What’s one item every guy should have?

It’s not an item, per se, but every guy should have his barber (or hair stylist) and tailor on speed dial. I’m talking, BFF-status. These folks are the foundation of you looking and feeling your best each day, so it’s worth investing in these relationships. Find talented people you trust and stick with them through thick and thin…whatever’s thick and whatever’s thin for you, that is.

5) Who would you most like to see create a kit and about what?

I want to see a kit from Misty Copeland! I love the new #IWillWhatIWant campaign from UnderArmour, and as the first African-American female principal dancer with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre, she’s the perfect spokesperson for it. Even though I never had ballerina ambitions, Copeland’s grace and determination inspire me to keep pushing and striving in my own career.

6) Show us your emoji!

Thanks, Megan! May your Valentine’s Day also be filled with hearts, fire and shooting stars.
