Qoop, Watch Your Answers!
A recently conducted a 24-hour internal hackathon at Pratilipi.com saw six teams participating with some very interesting ideas. The event was fun-filled with teams working around-the-clock to deliver something new.
This post is to highlight the efforts of our team and the product’s MVP that we built.
Qoop — Why and How
Arunima is studying algorithms. But she’s stuck at heapsort because she’s not able to visualize how the algorithm works out. She has an interview coming up next week and must get her basics clear before that. Only if someone were to explain it to her on a piece of paper!
Pulkit wants to dance on a famous Bollywood number in his college fest. He’s not much of a dancer, so needs step by step choreography instructions that he can watch and follow.
Both Arunima and Pulkit can go to Qoop and post their query. At Qoop, our subject experts will take up a student’s question and answer it through a recorded video. Audio-visual answers tend to better command students’ attention than mundane textual ones, and in some cases (like the dance number), it’s the only choice.
Target Audience
For askers on the platform, we could target students from Tier 2 and Tier 3 institutes and cities. Also, students enrolled to open/distance courses could be potential users. In addition to these, anyone with a query can make use of the platform to their advantage.
Experts on our app could be postgrad students, research scholars from Tier 1 institutes, working professionals and instructors in a domain.
There is a market for Qoop
- According to Technavio, the online education market in India expected to be worth $18 billion.
- According to KPMG, primary and secondary supplemental education will be the largest category, with an expected 39% market share.
- Around 280 million students are expected to be registered in schools by 2021 with open and distance learning enrolments to reaching 10 million.
- Language and Casual Learning is expected to see a 42% CAGR in the years going to 2021.
