Preparing for the Home Stretch
With less than a few weeks left, Current Collective is wrapping up the semester by finalizing the prototype and preparing for our final presentation.
Changing Directions
The last round of user tests solidified our plans to move forward with the redesign. The new design began with creating a strong narrative. We developed an architecture flow to map the content for our Big Screen (projection) and Tablet Screens (controllers) from start to finish. This design includes a quiz game led by a narrator. The Research and Content Lead, Bria Best, created a decision tree to track the logic for the questions and answers in the game.
We also met with the client to conduct a prototype walkthrough, and fact check our content. We adjusted our content to include feedback such as
- For our Consumption/Production Graph - thermal should be at the base because it is used first to stabilize energy production, then renewable energy is used in addition to that.
- For our weather report - 90 km/h is a storm already, and it is not a typical day.
- Give the visitors a more technical explanation if they get the answer wrong.
User Testing
Our Design Lead, Stephanie Liao created a mid-fidelity prototype of the new design to prepare it for another round of user tests. We conducted think-alouds to evaluate the new redesign. The new prototype addressed the issues we had with dual focus, and the added narrative helped keep users on track, ultimately contributing to a more seamless experience. We also learned that participants
- Wanted to slide/swipe instead of just tapping
- Felt that some interactions were too close, and they were afraid of pressing the wrong thing
Design Critique
We met with Dr. Sonia Matos, designer and ethnographer, to critique our redesign. Armed with a fresh perspective, we decided to incorporate the following feedback
- refine our color palette
- develop a visual language/brand
- improve usage of iconography
- reduce the amount of text
Design Sprint
Current Collective wrapped the week by heading to Porto Santo for a design sprint. We have a lot on our plate with little time left, so this arrangement allows us increased opportunities to be collaborative and productive.
Stay tuned next week to see how the design sprint turned out!
