Week 12: Focusing Our Vision
Because we were just coming back from our spring break, we had a bit of a late start to the week in terms of meetings. We made up for this by holding two meetings towards the end of the week.
Report Design Timeline
To get a head start on some of our deliverables, we decided to create a general timeline for the mid-project report. We planned out a timeline for ourselves to give us more breathing room at the end. Our current plan has us finishing the earlier parts of our process first. For example, we have most of our Research Methods done, so those sections should be written out first and passed off to the report designer. This way, the designer has time to put together parts of the report over a longer period of time.
Designing A Synthesis Method
Our Research Lead took it into her own hands to create a method that would work for our project. She felt that Affinity Diagramming didn’t work with the data set that we had collected because our project didn’t follow a workflow that is outlined in Contextual Design. Because of this, she found a guidelines that museums follow to design a compelling museum experience. Using these guidelines, our team decided to sort our data into these guidelines (in our case, inclusivity, social interaction, sensory, local interests & needs, social responsibility, & flow/layout). From these larger categories, we created mini affinity diagrams out of this data. We have decided to name this technique, the reverse affinity method.
Next Steps
We had hoped to make a larger decision about the path of our project by the end of this week, but unfortunately we ran out of time. We hope to make our project direction decision at the start of next week and start visioning next week.
