Hextech: Basic attacks and Special Abilities heal for 25% of the damage dealt.

Bloodthirster: Basic attacks heal for 40% of the damage dealt.

So… when should you build Hextech over Bloodthirster and vice versa? It’s actually pretty simple. Bloodthirster is great on auto-attack only based champs, adc’s such as: Lucian, Graves, and Draven. In general, Bloodthirster is great on gunslingers since they can shoot multiple targets at once, thus resulting in a 40% heal from the damage dealt and also great on high damage dealers from basic auto-attacks, i.e. Draven.

Hextech, on the other hand, is great on champions like Shyvana, Attrox, and Akali. For Shyvana when she ults, she spits off a basic attack fire ability + that ability causes a burn. Thus netting her more possible heal than Bloodthirster. Akali’s ability deals most of her damage vs her auto attacks, thus once again, it makes more sense to put Hextech on her over Bloodthirster.

Most of your damage coming from abilities = Hextech.

Most of your damage coming from basic auto attacks = Bloodthirster.

And it’s really that simple. Now you are fully equipped to try out those items in Teamfight Tactics!
