Nandan Nilekani, the co-founder of Infosys and former chairman of UIDAI, is one of TeamIndus’s earliest investors. Here are five things he told the team on a recent visit to the TeamIndus HQ

Why Nandan Nilekani invested in TeamIndus

I have a weakness for crazy, audacious goals. The ability of this Mission to light a fire of extraordinary ambition in India is for all to see and it will have massive multiplier effects. When we started Infosys, nobody believed that we could start a global company from India. During the early days of Aadhar, nobody believed that a billion people would have Aadhar.

Focus Focus Focus

A Moonshot is a Moonshot. You have a single shot at landing on the Moon. Obviously that raises the bar a lot. Relentless focus is what is required.

Matching Ambition with Execution

There are so many streams of activities in projects like these. Each of them individually maybe on the right track. But a Mission like this becomes successful when you bring it all together. Execution has to be as great as your ambition to make it happen.

Simulate Everything

All your energy must go into reducing the odds of failure. That means that to the extent possible, you must use software to simulate every little detail.

Setting a Benchmark

In terms of demonstrating innovation at this level of complexity, this Mission is a very profound statement. You guys are doing something that will put India on the world map. It will have impact on new things people will try out of India. If you have an audacious, ambitious goal and you bring together a set of people with different backgrounds like you have now, who are all united and focused behind a common vision, then magic can happen.
