Only one craft has ever photographed Neptune

Neptune is the farthest and the bluest planet in our solar system. While it has been photographed by telescopes, especially the Hubble Space Telescope, but by only one craft.

This image of Neptune was snapped by the Voyager 2 craft on Aug 20, 1989 at 4.4 million miles from the planet. The picture shows the Great Dark Spot (top left) and the Small Dark Spot (below, right).

The images from Voyager 2 today remain the most identifiable and widely used images for Neptune.
