It’s been an eventful year for India’s space program. The success of GSLV Mk-III, which uses an indigenous cryogenic engine, enables launch of 4-tonne satellites to Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). To put these in simple words, it means that India will not have to depend on foreign launchers for it’s range of heavier communication satellites.

2017 also saw the PSLV C37 deploy a record-breaking 104 satellites into orbit. While these were nano-satellites, it does highlight the ingenuity in deploying satellite constellations. The launch made news globally and was well-received among followers of our space program.

This Independence Day, we’re celebrating India’s achievements in space. 15th August is also the founding date of ISRO which was established in 1969 with the aim of developing a civilian program that applied space technology for socio-economic development of the country as envisioned by Dr. Vikram Sarabhai.

To commemorate some of the most important milestones, we created a series of 3 illustrated posters celebrating space missions that have captured the imagination of every Indian.
