The surprise
Imagine waking up on a Tuesday morning, scrolling through Product Hunt while still in bed, and seeing your product getting surprise-hunted (without your prior knowledge)… yup, that was me!
It was a whirlwind thereafter — contacted PH everywhere (via Twitter, live chat, email) as well the hunter, who unfortunately was unresponsive, decided to address comments first, got added as a maker after some time, quickly updated the assets, wordings, crafted a maker message, replied to all the comments that were trickling in, then finally brushed my teeth and ate my breakfast. You could tell that that wasn’t the morning I expected!
The results, and some reflections
Overall, I’m really thankful for the results! I had a really, really great time interacting with people on Product Hunt and answering questions. I had initially wanted to launch on Product hunt much later, after getting more user feedback, so the hunt caught me off guard. It took me a while to decide to go with it — thanks to Jasper for the push of encouragement, and for helping me deal with the unexpected turn of events!
Sometimes life throws you unexpected lemons so squeeze them (if they look squeezable). In this case, I squeezed the lemons (alright the analogy is getting weird) because my product was already on the front page when I spotted it (though it’s somewhat at the bottom at first), and I thought that it was a good chance for me to show it to the world and iterate on the feedback loop faster. After all, if it fails, relaunching Teamo 2.0 is always possible!
What a day! Launching on Product Hunt and seeing months (or years) of work taking off, no matter how unexpected, is always a great feeling. Good luck to all indie hackers out there who are about to launch!
