Hello, I am Yuhi from TeamSpirit Singapore.

Did you hear about one of the biggest announcements from Salesforce this year ?

Yes, its about the new technology — now partners can distribute Einstein Analytics as OEM for free !!!

Overview of Einstein Analytics

Have you ever used Tableau or MS PowerBI ? Einstein Analytics is something like that: a BI tool by Salesforce(official page).

Compared to other services, the functionality of EA is slightly less. But if you have been using Salesforce, EA is the best tool for you since the integration with Salesforce is very easy. Just after you connect Salesforce data, you can see a cool chart in a dashboard like this.

source: Trailhead

If you want to know more, I recommend this Trail Head.

It is said that today is the era of big data. By exploring and analysing big data, we can get some insights for our business which will aid the decision of future actions. Still curious about EA? Let’s check out how we can utilize EA with the case study below!

Case Study

Imagine you are an employee who is using Salesforce in your company. Management team is asking you:

How has the company’s expense changed before and after COVID19/Coronavirus?

Let’s answer this question using EA.

Our company provides a SaaS Expense management system on Salesforce, so you can have a look at the expense data through EA.

I have created this dashboard with EA. (How? Have a look at this Trailhead)

EA dashboard. This is mock data, not actual data :)

These pie charts shows the company’s expense. The left pie chart shows the expenses of April this year after the Coronavirus outbreak while the right shows the expenses of April the previous year, before the Coronavirus outbreak. The expenses are divided into the various categories on the pie chart, Office supplies (blue), Snacks (yellow) and Airplane Tickets (red).

From the pie chart, you can see:

  1. The airplane ticket (red) was claimed last year but not this year. This may be due to staff not being able to leave Singapore due to the Circuit Breaker.
  2. However, even though no claims were made for airplane tickets, the expenses of this year increased from $1100 to $1400.
  3. This is because more snacks (yellow) were purchased! Maybe they were missing office snacks and wanted to eat more of them at home. :)
  4. Also, the office supplies (blue) expense amount increased. The company had decided to give the staff allowance for purchasing monitors or chairs to help with telecommuting.

Now we can answer the management team’s question!

How has the company’s expense changed before and after COVID19/Coronavirus? (anything is ok)

Answer: Even though flight tickets were not claimed anymore, the total expenses increased due to the telecommuting allowance and hungry buddies :)

How to create the data ?

This is the Einstein Data Manager screen of Salesforce. The terms sfdcDigest_Account, sfdcDigest_Opportunity, sfdcDigest_User represent salesforce objects.

In this screen, you can connect data to one object by left join. Since these objects are replicated from their actual objects, you don’t need to care about changing actual objects. After you create the connection, you can schedule a synchronization if you want to check the data regularly.

After you connect the data, you can go to Einstein Analytics Studio to create a dashboard like the one below.

Summary

Using EA, we can also answer other questions such as ‘How can we reduce expense?’, ‘Why is this year’s expense so high ?’ which may be frequently asked questions.

Thanks to Salesforce, we can distribute such a powerful tool for free!
Let’s contribute to Customer Success :)
