Oh no, I really want to read that one story!

tl;dr: Google Code Inspector and Network Conditions , and you will see how to load the site without the blocker.

DISCLAIMER: If you are a frequent reader of the site, please do actually support the site if you’d like to read from there in the future. I am mentioning this tip because I happened to work on SEO optimization recently. Also, I was only trying to read one article for free, ok?

Articles on the internet are funny things. They want to make sure real users pay up, but they also want to get indexed by Google and other search engines so they can show up in search results.

Take https://www.sfchronicle.com/business/article/Coronavirus-SF-hotels-restaurants-see-slowdown-15035450.php for example.

If you install Ad-Blocker like uBlock Origin, everywhere you go to read the news, you will be greeted with the above screenshot.

Before you disable your Ad-Blocker or take out your wallet though, put on your Developer hat:

How does Google index this page without paying them 95$ a month/year?

Ok, This is What You Do

  1. right click, then inspect
