The Arch on an Ancient Roman Road
The Arco Di Riccardo, hidden in the quaint backstreets of Trieste’s old town, offers an interesting glimpse into the city’s past.
For history buffs and curious minds alike, Trieste is a must-visit destination. The city in northeastern Italy not only provides unprecedented insights into a multitude of events spanning different time periods but is also home to some of the most distinctly different sites of archaeological/historical significance.
Trieste Città Vecchia (Trieste Old Town), located on the slopes of Colle di San Giusto (the San Giusto hill), is a treasure trove of hidden information, especially for those keen to unearth more than what they are already aware of. Considering the city has a tendency to always come up with a surprise, or two, any trip to Trieste eventually becomes an enriching experience.
I have visited the capital city of the autonomous region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia on multiple occasions, and on every visit I have come across something that has added to my existing knowledge base. The most recent trip ensured a double whammy, so to speak, during which I got to witness some recently unearthed ruins while also stumbling upon another historic structure in the bargain.
