The Co-founder of Elementary OS recently announced on his blog about Elementary OS 6 and the exact words are,
Elementary OS 6. elementary OS is based on the Ubuntu LTS core and repositories under the hood. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS will be coming out this year, and subsequently, we plan to release elementary OS 6 with a 20.04 base.
Elementary OS 6 Expectations:
- Update Codename in 6.0 dailies
- Add Focal Daily Workflow
- Auto-update focal meta-packages
- Elementary-live depends on FW update-signed
- Investigate failures to install distinct in focal
- Enhanced Gesture support
- Double-down on organizational goals
- Flatpak, sandboxing, and Portals
- More personalization in elementary OS
