APPLE
Apple Isn’t Licking Trump’s Boots on DEI
Which makes me a little bit happier
I wasn’t sure how I felt about Apple cozying up to Trump. I did not like Tim Cook’s contribution to the God Emperor’s inauguration or his sitting on the stage during it. On the other hand, while Cook’s promises to bring more manufacturing to the U.S. certainly got impetus from Trump’s tariff threats, I have always felt that relying heavily on manufacturing in countries who could easily become our enemies is also risky.
So when Cook then announced another round of capital injections to this country and more hiring, I didn’t see that as necessarily entirely motivated by political fawning. After all, Apple has done similarly large investments in 2018 and 2021 without any threat of tariffs.
So, a slight thumbs up with a shoulder shrug?
Note: Some folks say these announcements are pretty much what Apple would do anyway in the normal course of business. I agree, but so what? It still shows the contribution Apple makes to our economy.
