Apple’s Invites Feature Is, Umm, Okay?

I guess, maybe, I dunno?

An older man with gray hair and a playful, exaggerated grin looks off to the side. Floating beside him is an event invitation featuring a birthday cake with lit candles. The event is titled “Not My Birthday,” scheduled for February 8th at 3:00 AM, with a planned activity of swimming 500 yards in Lake Michigan. The invitation is hosted by Tony Lawrence, who humorously emphasizes, “It’s not my birthday. Stay away!”

My 77th birthday will be arriving soonish. No, I’m not having a party, but if I lost my mind and did do that, I suppose Apple’s Invites feature might be a way to create and send invitations. So, I used Apple’s new app to craft a “Swim out 500 yards in Lake Michigan” event for my dear friends who would like to celebrate with me.

Well, I’ll celebrate vicariously. I won’t be there myself. It’s too cold and too far away. But I will be thinking of you!

Creating a basic invitation was easy. The finished product was squirreled away in iCloud, which made me wonder if my Android friends would be able to access it. Then I remembered that I don’t have any Android using friends. Not any who I’d invite, anyway.

But other less discerning Apple users might not yet have ghosted all of their non-Apple friends, so I had to find out. Fortunately, there is a nice review at The Verge that answers my question:
