Is It Time for Apple To Stop Neglecting Software?
Dan Moren thinks so and so do I
My biggest complaints with Apple have been mostly about software. They leave annoying glitches untouched for years and don’t bother to implement badly needed features. If you’ve read me for any length of time, you know that one of my regular rants is something like this:
“Does anyone important at Apple actually use any of their software?”
It sure doesn’t seem like they do, so much so that I wonder if any of them even know how to use a Mac, an iPhone, or an iPad. Seriously, I can imagine Tim Cook calling in an assistant because he doesn’t know how to swipe a program out of memory!
Dan Moren at Macworld sees Trump’s tariffs as an opportunity for Apple. I’m not sure I’d take it quite that far, but I solidly agree with him when he says that changing their neglect of software could be a very helpful move:
“If Apple does have to raise the prices of its hardware, providing a better software experience is another pro in the column when it comes time for people to decide whether or not they’re going to buy.” (Dan Moren at Macworld)
A company with so many resources and so much money shouldn’t have such a glaring weak spot.
