WASTE
Paper, Paper Everywhere
My hatred grows
I bought something at CVS yesterday. You might have made jokes about using their receipts as a scarf, but they do offer digital receipts also. When the young girl behind the counter asked which I wanted, I requested the latter and also mentioned that receipt ink can be a bit dangerous.
“Sure,” she replied, “if you handle a lot of it.”
Hmm. I wonder how much she handles in a week? Something else I’ve often wondered about is the cumulative toxic effect of everything we are exposed to daily. So if you’d need to touch x receipts and eat one banana and walk by two people smoking and breathe so much auto exhaust and drink this much tap water, does it matter if each exposure is below danger levels?
Doesn’t it add up? Aren’t our bodies under constant attack now?
I do not know. But I do know that excess paper irritates me. Our recycling and waste bins are always choked with it.
Receipts
Some stores offer digital receipts. I don’t know of any that make that the default and require asking for paper. Too many do both when you choose digital. At this time, in this modern world, wouldn’t that make sense?
