‘SPLAIN IT TO ME
What Does Apple Mean When You Send a Text and It Says They Have Notifications Silenced?
What happens when you click “Notify Anyway” ?
When you send an Apple Message to another Apple user — or lemming, if that’s your bent — you might notice a tiny “Delivered quietly” under it, followed by a slightly more prominent explanation that they have notifications silenced. You also get a clickable “Notify Anyway” under that.
If you click “Notify Anyway”, the message you sent flashes large briefly and the “Delivered Quietly” is replaced by “Delivered”. It doesn’t mean that it was not delivered when you first sent it; it means that the recipient will be notified, which was not done when first sent.
So, when you get the “notifications silenced” note, your message was delivered but they were not notified because they are blocking notifications. If you click “Notify Anyway”, they do get notified; you “break through” the Focus Mode they have set.
If you noticed the little moon icon that preceded the “notifications silenced”, you might think that indicates their Focus Mode, but it doesn’t. It only tells you that whatever Focus they are using includes silencing notifications.
