What Might Rumors of 12GB iPhone 17 Trigger?
FOMO, of course. What else?
The rumors about 12GB of RAM in at least the iPhone 17 Pro are heating up. If that confuses you, note that this is RAM, not storage. Recent iPhones had 6GB until the 15 Pro and all the 16’s, which have 8. Older iPhones had even less.
Should you be concerned if you bought a 15 Pro or any of the 16's? Will you need to bail out early and buy a 17 Pro? If you are like me, the answer is almost certainly, yes, take my crappy 8GB phone plus a stack of money and give me the 17 Pro.
Because I might miss out.
Though I also could be wasting money. We don’t know if iOS 19 will actually need 12GB to take full advantage of whatever Apple Intelligence will be offering then. Does the phone need that RAM like I need breakfast after my typical 14 hour fast? Or is Apple merely future-proofing and any version of Apple Intelligence that hungry is years away?
Worse, could it come to pass that the iPhone 18’s or 19’s get a truly useful Apple Intelligence that will turn out to need 24 or 32GB? That’s a kick in the pants that would really hurt.
The only thing worse would be if Apple has to admit defeat and give up Apple Intelligence just like they gave up…
