SMART MONEY

Would You Be Willing To Pay for Apple Intelligence?

Quite a few apparently are not

Back in June, 9 to 5 Mac ran a survey asking if their readers would be willing to pay extra, perhaps $5 or $10 monthly, for Apple Intelligence. Around 2,800 people took the survey. Over 1,800 said they definitely would not.

Wow. From having worked in an Apple store for a few years, I know that many Apple buyers will happily shell out a thousand dollars for a new phone every few years, but won’t pay a dollar a month to buy extra iCloud storage so they can reliably back up the data on that phone. That foolishness caused grief for some of those penny-pinchers.

I wonder why? Is it subscription fatigue? I can sympathize with that — I’ll be damned if I’m going to shell out for another streaming service, by gum!

Or is it informed choice? We get to use ChatGPT now for free. Well, I use it too often, and I want the extra features paying gets me, so I give them their $20 blood money every month, but most people can probably get away for free. Apple would probably do the same: have part of it free and the good stuff paid.
