OG.Art (the home for dynamic art and the NFT platform of Snark.art) and Pace Verso (the hub for web3 projects of Pace Gallery) have joined forces and just launched “Life in Our Minds” (2022).

The NFT project is the result of a synergistic collaboration between Danil Krivoruchko, a New York-based digital artist and co-creator of the OG: Crystals NFT project, and the post-digital art group Random International.

“Life in Our Minds” will be available to collectors starting from October 25th, 2022 on the OG.Art platform. Adopting a technology that allows to actively participate in the evolution of NFTs, it puts buyers in the position of influencing the artwork while increasing its rarity. The project includes a first part that consists of an animated NFT collection of Boids (LIOM NFTs), which have the form of 3D bird-like origami objects, and a second that features a generative interactive video sculpture (Mother Flock) made up of the individual NFTs.

The project aims to overturn some common behaviors in the cryptocurrency market, such as speculation and flipping, and create a new generation of crypto collectors. To achieve these goals, the work is based on a mechanism that offers collectors the opportunity to co-create the work of art as it develops. By encouraging the long-term retention of NFTs, it allows the latter to become rarer as their formal characteristics become more elaborate proportionally to the content of the collector’s wallet and the time spent in it. While the number of boids can increase, their decorative patterns or formation can vary and change over time. If some properties of LIOM NFTs are predefined (such as shape or speed of evolution), others are influenced by buyer behavior or may be randomly distributed (such as higher-than-average speed of evolution).

“Life in our Minds continues our exploration of the human tendency to ascribe character, intent, and narrative to the complex behaviors of simple moving forms, as well as the subconscious instincts and emotional triggers that cause us to do so.” — Random International, artist statement.

The generative virtual sculpture Mother Flock constantly evolves as it reflects the transformation of the individual NFTs of which it is composed. It embodies both individual and collective action in the forms of individual mark-making and collective ownership while providing the viewer with an image that is informed by current research on the psychology and behavior of both birds and humans. A free web version of the Mother Flock will be made available to the public permanently on the OG.Art platform.

“Life in Our Minds” is described by its producers as “one of the most collaborative, technologically innovative NFT projects to date”. As explained by Pace Gallery, it boasts a large number of partners, including leading collections and DAOs (such as Outland, Flamingo DAO, OG Crystals, Moonbirds, PROOF Collective, and more), “to offer custom evolutionary traits that are only available to people who hold NFTs associated with these partners.”

In a recent interview, Hannes Koch of Random International explained how “Life in Our Minds” carries on and expands the work done by their “Swarm Studies” series, where the collective’s research and experimentation reflects on the simulated patterns of group behavior found in nature (collective behavior). The artist also underlined how the NFT space is opening up possibilities that are conceptually interesting and not feasible in the real world, such as allowing the public to co-create and co-own a public work of art that transcends the physical limits and has a life of its own.
