In case you haven’t noticed, there’s something happening on YouTube. I’m not talking about YouTube Red or Google’s foray into original content. This is even bigger. And it’s something anyone producing any form of content or art should take notice of.

I’m talking about daily vlogs. Seemingly overnight, a handful of hardworking YouTube creators have begun to attract loyalty at a level that surpasses the addictions to Netflix Originals and million-dollar budget HBO TV series. And we’re not talking loyal audiences of thousands. These daily vloggers are attracting the eyeballs of millions.

And the growth of this new genre is downright stunning.

Consider YouTuber Casey Neistat.

Casey Neistat celebrates the milestone of hitting 1 million subscribers.

Neistat, who publishes a new vlog every single day, hit 1 million subscribers on vlog 153. Just two months later he is closing in on 1.4 million subscribers. At this rate of growth he should hit 2 million subscribers by year-end.

Roman Atwood vlogging

Then there’s Roman Atwood, who has two major YouTube channels: one for pranks and one for daily vlogging. His prank channel has a mind-boggling 7.6 million subscribers and his daily vlog has 4.2 million subscribers. Roman’s 739 uploaded videos to his vlog channel shows how prolific he is.

Deliver consistently

What’s this have to do with creatives in general? As the barriers to produce, deliver, distribute, and connect continue to topple over, the payoff is increasingly higher for those who show up, put in the work, and deliver great content consistently.

No, this doesn’t mean every artist has to produce something new every day. And the goal here isn’t to emphasize this as the best way to build a large audience.

But the rise of daily vlogs makes one absolutely critical point: in the age of social media, showing up consistently is one of the best ways to hone your craft and succeed. With all the tools we need to create at our fingertips and distribution just a click a way, ambitious artists can create, create, create and the world will tell you whether you are a pro, or not. And if it says you are worthy, you can just keep creating until you are.

Daily vlogs have given me permission to create and deliver every single day. And that’s exactly what I intend to do.
