3 Great MacOS Software Dev Apps to Manage and Manipulate Your Data

I’m going to present three great applications that I use regularly during my software development phases.

TablePlus — GUI tool for databases

TablePlus is a GUI Tool to make your database management easier.

The things I like about this tool is that it is visually pleasing as well as easy to use, it is native which makes it much more efficient/faster than a cross-platform application developed with Electron for example.

Table Plus also supports multiple relational and non-relational databases, a must have that allows us to manage multiple databases in one tool.

There is a Free version that allows you to perform various actions. However, you will quickly find yourself frustrated by not being able to open more than two tabs or add more than two filters. Of course, the Premium version allows you to bypass this.

Paw — API tool for Mac

Paw is a full-featured HTTP client that lets you test and describe the APIs you build or consume.

It is really easy to use and it integrates perfectly with the Apple ecosystem because unlike Postman or Insomnia which are cross-platform applications (build on top of Electron), the great strength of Paw is to be developed natively on the MacOS eco-system.

Using a native app often gives you better performance, lighter and more secure.

The application is paid, with a purchase valid for life.

Medis — GUI tool for Redis

For those who don’t want to use TablePlus for cache data management with Redis, there is a great tool: Medis which is a modern Redis GUI designed for Mac.

Besides its nice visual appearance, it is a complete tool to manage your Redis databases.

The free version has many limitations, you will quickly come to buy the premium version which is a lifetime license.

Bonus: Apollo Studio Explorer

I know it’s not a MacOS application per se but how can I not talk about this great tool that I hope will be ported one day to our Apple eco-system.

I told you about Paw which is a great tool for consuming your APIs, but when it comes to using GraphQL, I come straight to Apollo Studio Explorer.

Apollo Studio Explorer is a powerful web-based IDE for creating, running and managing GraphQL operations.

Easy to use, visually pleasing, with many features (such as query linting, autocompletion, the peek definitions on mouse hover or the Jump-to-definition with a single command-click), the other alternatives on the market do not come close.

Thank you for reading 🙏.

Feel free to share and/or follow me for more content. It would help me a lot 😁
