Midnight doubts of an entrepreneur

It’s midnight, and you can hear the sounds of the fraternity in the house next door partying. You’re lying on the floor on a $20 Target air mattress, wide awake. It’s not because you’re uncomfortable, you know the Target air mattresses are the best, now that you’ve run through a few of them — no, it’s nerves.

At 12:00 AM it officially becomes five days until launch.

You’re not ready. It’s done, some minor bugs that you can knock out quickly, but the big thing holding you back now is this midnight fear.

What if it’s buggy?

What if it crashes?

What if they hate it?

Or worse:

What if no one uses it at all?

Was all this work, all the bootstrapping and ramen and punctured air mattresses for nothing?

Get some sleep, little entrepreneur. Lay off the coffee a little, and stop downing those crazy nootropics. Treat yourself to a decent meal, one that has vegetables in it. Go running. Most of all, chill out.

Because even if no one uses it, you’ll have all the experience you gained during the journey. And you can write a great Medium post about how you once returned a lamp to WalMart in order to buy instant noodles, you were that broke.

But really, deep down, you know you have it in you. Have faith in what you’ve made and be proud to show the world all that you’ve accomplished.

You can do it, little entrepreneur. Go sleep sweet dreams of hockey sticks and disruption and the cover of Inc magazine.

Don’t give up.
