What 57 Days of Doing Something I Loved Taught Me

I’ve been Tech Doodling for 57 days, and damn it, I still love it…

But.

On June 13, I wrote “What 2 Weeks of Doing Something I Loved Taught Me.” The post was a short piece meant to motivate me more than anything else.

You see, while I’ve had some successes in these 57 days, most of it was within the first 10, and I could already foresee the long slog ahead on Day 14 when things had died down.

Doing something every day, even something you really love, even something that helps you get through the darker moments of #startuplife — well, it can get old.

But while I started Tech Doodles on a whim, it’s come to mean something to me — I think it’s a chance to air the darker sides of entrepreneurship, to show that women don’t have to be perfect to be accomplished in the tech realm, and to challenge some stereotypes. All while still making lightning-boob jokes.

(That really happened. And I was not the one to coin the “lightning boob” phrase.)

So I’m going to continue on my Doodle-journey. But something has to give. I’m taking on freelance work to support myself as I work on my fitness company, Fittr, but with the Doodles on top, it’s kind of rough.

So I’m looking for patronage. Some of you might already be familiar with Patreon, which is a site for artists, writers, and other producers-of-things to seek support from friends and followers. I’m starting my own campaign.

The cool thing about potential funding is that it will also allow me to take my Doodles a little further — to start producing a bi-monthly (6x/year) paper comic book. I’m very excited for that! And so there are levels of patronage to get either the PDF or paper copies.

If you’d like to donate, or just learn more, visit my Patreon site. No pressure, you don’t have to pitch in financially. Your moral support over these last couple of months has already meant worlds to me.

Thank you very much.

All the best,

Kiki
