SpaceX Docks With ISS Astronauts Stuck In Space For 9 Months Are Finally Coming Home
NASA is speeding up the return of astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore after an unexpected nine-month stay on the International Space Station.
The pair arrived in June 2024 on a Boeing Starliner test mission but remained in orbit after the capsule malfunctioned and had to return empty. Now, with a replacement crew docked, NASA has rescheduled their return for Tuesday evening, taking advantage of favorable weather over Florida’s Gulf Coast.
The quicker return also helps conserve station supplies, as crew handovers are being shortened. Despite the delay, Williams and Wilmore have stayed productive, conducting scientific experiments and sharing their experiences with the public.
Their extended mission has fascinated space fans, offering a glimpse into the challenges of long-term space travel. After a 17-hour journey aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon, they’ll finally be back on Earth, ending a mission far longer than expected.
