If you were to ask Apple whether you need to install antivirus software on your Mac the answer would be no. The tight integration between their hardware and software assists in preventing their systems from being infected.

While in the most basic sense this is true, it isn’t realistic to believe that the Mac is immune to viruses and malware.

At the very least, you will want to protect your Mac with antivirus software to prevent passing on Windows viruses to your friends and colleagues running Microsoft Windows.

While a Windows virus won’t infect your Mac, it can use your Mac as an entry point into the network you are attached to, to infect others. If you want to be a good digital citizen, you must install antivirus software on your machine.
