Musings and Monologues: Hilda Moraa
If you are in the startup ecosystem in Kenya, and largely Africa, Hilda Moraa is a name that is very familiar. She is the founder of Pezesha, a holistic digital financial infrastructure that connects small and medium sized businesses to working capital through a collaborative approach where banks, MFIs and other financial institutions or networks can connect on our platform to be matched with quality SMEs driving meaningful financial inclusion and reducing any inequalities on access to formal financial services.
Her company is making strides and you can tell from their recent partnerships, that they are serious about their mission. Some of the partnerships that I have come across recently are:
- Kladika Company — to enable small retailers in the fashion industry access
- Ongoza — to provide access to affordable working capital for Ongoza Marketplace vendors.
- Google Africa — to empower SMEs in Kenya with access to finance, tools and services and get customers. So far they have supported 1000+ SMEs by helping them get an online presence.
- UNCDF — to support MSMEs in their access to finance journey.
Additionally, GreenHouse Capital (GHC) announced that Pezesha was one of three companies that will receive funding from Google’s Black Founders Fund in Africa. The companies selected will be receiving up to $100,000 in funds, mentorship from Google experts, and Google platform credits as part of the investment. What a win! A huge congratulations to the team at Pezesha.
On Hilda’s Musings and Monologues, she takes us through her journey way from University, her first company Weza Tele, writing her first book, her roles changing in her current company and so much more.
The team at Tech For Granted Podcast recorded this episode in October 2019, and looking at where her company is at the moment, November 2021, it is great to see that a lot that she spoke about years ago is coming to fruition;her hard work and excellence is being rewarded by the universe.
Have a listen, enjoy and definitely share with your peers on the entrepreneurship journey.
